Gretchen S. Wilcox

President and Founder
Gretchen S. Wilcox is the President and Founder of G.S. Wilcox & Co. She oversees all aspects of the firm, providing leadership and guidance to achieve the objectives of its clients. Gretchen is also involved with numerous professional and philanthropic associations, serving as a Trustee for the New Jersey chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks and also as a member on the organization’s national board. She also served on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce for more than a decade and is on the board of Strategic Mortgage Alliance (SAM). Gretchen also currently serves on the advisory board executive committee for the Center for Real Estate at Rutgers Business School. In 2011, Gretchen received the Pillar Award from NAIOP and has twice been named by NJ Biz as one of the 50 most powerful people in commercial real estate in New Jersey. She also received the “Community Impact Award” from Crossing Boarders in 2009 and in 2008 was appointed by the Governor of New Jersey to serve on his real estate counsel. That same year, Gretchen received the Financial Tribute award from Boy Scouts of America, and was named a “Woman of Influence” by Forum magazine. Gretchen was also named one of the “Top 50 Women in Business” by NJ Biz in 2005. Gretchen has two children and is heavily involved with the Daniel J. Wilcox Memorial fund, a fund named in honor of her late husband that provides aid to victims of domestic violence in New Jersey. Joseph N Smerdon, Jr.

Joe has been with the firm since its founding in 1994. As Principal in Charge of Operations, he oversees all loan closing, servicing, and internal management functions along with accounting and human resources. Joe is responsible for G.S. Wilcox & Co.’s $1B servicing portfolio coordinating every loan closing and serving as liaison between the firm’s correspondent lenders and borrowers. In addition, he contributes his skills and expertise on special projects for the firm. Joe has earned degrees in Management & Accounting and is also a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in the state of New Jersey. He lives in Somerset County with his wife and two children. Al Raymond

As Principal of the firm, Al is in charge of underwriting and origination development. As liaison between the borrower and lender, Al prepares and oversees all executive summaries and loan submissions, from application to commitment. Al is also responsible for IT management as well as closely tracking local commercial real estate transactions and performing market research. Al has been with the firm since 1997, and has worked in commercial banking since 1989. A licensed Real Estate Salesperson in the state of New Jersey and a graduate of Saint Peter’s College with a BS degree in Economics, Al resides in Morris County with his wife and two children. David J. Fryer

As a Principal of the firm, David originates, underwrites, structures and places commercial real estate capital for clients.  David joined the firm in 1998 and has placed first mortgage, mezzanine loan and equity capital requests for many of the leading private owners, REITs and fund advisors in the country. Prior to joining the firm, David was a founding member of a corporate brokerage group in San Francisco working on behalf of companies in the placement of both debt and equity capital. David is a graduate of Samford University. He is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in New Jersey and active with NAIOP and ICSC.  He is also involved with Friends of the Upper Delaware River, an advocacy group working for the preservation of this great resource.  David resides in Morris County with his wife and enjoys fly fishing, woodworking and golf. Wesley Wilcox

Vice President
As a Vice President at G.S. Wilcox & Co., Wesley assists with the underwriting and origination functions of the firm. He is charged with expanding the firm’s client relationships as well as preparing executive summaries for lenders. Wesley has also been tasked with taking several new initiatives for the firm. Prior to joining G.S. Wilcox & Co., he worked as a financial analyst in the Institutional Properties Group at CBRE where he assisted with deal underwriting and production of offering memorandums. Before CBRE, he worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a Program Analyst in the Financing and Futures Department consulting for hedge funds and other large institutions that traded on margin.

Wesley is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in New Jersey and is also a member of NAIOP in which he co-chairs the New Jersey chapter of Developing Leaders. He is also involved with ULI’s Young Leaders and several local philanthropic organizations. He holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance from New York University and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bucknell University. Robert Logan

Vice President
As a Vice President, Rob assists with the underwriting, structuring and origination functions of the firm. He is tasked with carrying out detailed financial analyses and finding creative capital solutions for our clients. Prior to joining G.S. Wilcox & Co., he worked in the Debt and Structured Finance Group at Newmark Knight Frank where he supported the team’s underwriting and execution efforts. In this role, Rob analyzed financing opportunities, produced comprehensive offering memorandums, and managed the due-diligence and closing process for real estate transactions. Before Newmark, Rob spent nine years working in Structured Credit at ICAP where he performed specialist intermediary services across a variety of credit derivative products. Rob is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in New Jersey. He holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate Finance from New York University and received a BA in Economics and Latin American Studies from Connecticut College. Matthew Mariani

Financial Analyst
Matt is responsible for underwriting new loan transactions and completing the annual financial review of the G.S. Wilcox & Co. loan portfolio. His earlier experience includes positions as a Senior Loan Officer with firms including Porch Light Mortgage, LLC and Penn Federal Savings Bank. Matt attended Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ and brings over 20 years of industry experience to the firm. He has three children and resides in Passaic County. Valerie Weinstein

Valerie is responsible for all aspects of servicing the firm’s $1B portfolio including review of loan documentation, lease analysis, property inspections, escrow analysis, insurance and more. In addition, she coordinates loan closings with responsibilities that include review of loan documents, tenant documents, third party reports and serves as liaison between borrower, lender and counsel. She draws on her more than 25 years’ experience in commercial mortgage finance to accomplish all these tasks. Before joining the firm in 2006, Valerie worked for Moore Title Service where she reviewed, analyzed and processed over 1,000 title commitments and policies. Prior to that, Valerie worked at Commercial Mortgage Capital and New York Life Insurance Company, managing a $1.35B portfolio of mortgage loans.
